CoolSculpting® Fat Reduction Ann Arbor
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a non-surgical treatment which eliminates stubborn fat
CoolSculpting is the most innovative, non-surgical way to get rid of areas of stubborn fat that resist diet and exercise. The procedure targets unwanted fat cells in a selected area to achieve a noticeable, natural-looking reduction in your fat bulges. Although men and women tend to show fat in different areas, the CoolSculpting procedure works for both men and women.
The CoolSculpting procedure is FDA-cleared for the treatment of visible fat bulges in the submental area, thigh, abdomen, and flank. As the #1 non-invasive fat reduction procedure and with millions of CoolSculpting procedures performed worldwide, it is proven to be a safe and effective treatment.
Results happen gradually and look totally natural. You’ll see a difference as early as three weeks following treatment with the most dramatic results achieved after two to three months. In clinical studies, most patients experience a fat reduction of 22-25% after their CoolSculpting treatment (individual results may vary).
CoolSculpting involves no needles, surgery, or anesthesia. Instead, this body-contouring treatment relies on a suction and cooling applicator. The process only takes between 35 and 75 minutes per area treated. CoolSculpting cannot provide the same results that you get with liposuction or a tummy tuck in terms of removing larger amounts of excess fat and skin. Still, the results are real and measurable and patients find that their clothes fit much better after having it done.
Typically, there is minimal to no downtime after the treatment and patients often return to work on the same day after a CoolSculpting treatment is completed. However, patients may experience some temporary pain or discomfort. Side effects can include redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness to the touch, cramping, itching, tingling, and numbness. Numbness can persist up to several weeks after a procedure.
The CoolSmooth applicator is used to treat the thigh area. Since the CoolSmooth applicator is flat and does not require suction, it’s much more suitable for smaller fat deposits like those on the outer thigh and it adjusts to fit each individual. Even fat deposits that can’t be pinched, like those on the thighs, can be treated comfortably and conveniently.
The CoolMini applicator can freeze away your double chin. This add-on approval by the FDA allows us to treat smaller pockets of fat—like the area under the chin. During a session, the neck fat is placed into the curved applicator of the CoolMini. The arctic-level cold quickly numbs the area, so it’s pretty comfortable during a 60-minute treatment.
Are You A Candidate for CoolSculpting?
We want to be clear about who is and who is not a candidate for CoolSculpting. This treatment is indicated for men and women that have exercise resistant fat bulges. It is treats well-defined areas of fat with distinct borders that are pinchable and can be drawn up into the applicator. The areas treated are the abdomen, hip rolls, love handles, bra line, inner thighs and outer thighs and under the chin.
The number of treatments needed will vary per patient, depending upon the size and shape of the individual. If you have a small frame, are within 10 pounds of your ideal body weight and have a small defined bulge, you may only need one treatment.
For larger areas, multiple treatments will be necessary for more noticeable results. At the time of your consultation, we will be able to better assess the areas you wish to treat and prepare a treatment plan that fits your goals, time and budget.
CoolSculpting is not a treatment for obesity and it doesn’t tighten skin. You most likely are not a CoolSculpting candidate if you are overweight or have:
- Dense, taught, core fat with no distinct bulges (barrel chest/belly)
- Loose or unhealthy skin with excess skin laxity (hanging skin with little fatty tissue)
You also should not have the CoolSculpting procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. As with any medical procedure, ask your physician if the CoolSculpting procedure is right for you.
We have other options if you are not a candidate for CoolSculpting.
We love CoolSculpting, but are also the first to tell you that this procedure is not for everyone. For patients with loose skin, removing underlying fat can actually make things look worse, not better. As a plastic surgeon’s office, we understand that CoolSculpting is just one tool in a body contouring toolbox, not the only option. If you’re not a good candidate for the procedure, we won’t do it. Instead, we’ll direct you towards something that will give you the results you want, so that you can make an informed decision about what’s right for you.
Maintain Healthy Diet and Exercise Regimen after CoolSculpting
Exercise will keep your CoolSculpting results permanent. As long as you maintain your weight with normal diet and exercise, your long-term results should remain stable. Many patients do feel more motivated to take care of themselves after a CoolSculpting treatment. It’s as if they got a second lease on their body! They want to take even better care of themselves.
You’ll find that our prices are right in line with other practices in town. CoolSculpting is priced per area. The abdomen is considered one area and both flanks (hip rolls, inners thighs, love handles etc.) another single area. If you want two or more areas treated or one area treated more than once, it’s difficult to tell you exactly what it will cost before seeing you. Most patients opt to receive treatments in multiple body areas in order to achieve their goals and the total amount they pay for their entire treatment plan averages $2,250.
Come in for a consultation and we will create a CoolSculpting plan that meets your individual goals. We also offer flexible payment plans to help you achieve your goals.
Harvard University scientists observed that some children got dimples due to eating popsicles. The idea that cold can selectively affect and eliminate fat cells without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue was the insight behind Cryolipolysis®, the proven science on which the CoolSculpting procedure is based.
