Nose Reshaping for Men

Nose reshaping, also known as rhinoplasty surgery, helps to create a more attractive nasal shape, as well as put the nose in optimal proportion with the other facial features. This procedure can also help to correct an abnormal nose appearance due to congenital defects or injury. Many men choose to undergo this procedure to improve their self-confidence and overall appearance.

Who is a Nose Reshaping Surgery Candidate?

Men who are unhappy with the appearance of their nose due to large size, crookedness, or unevenness with other facial features are good candidates for nose reshaping surgery. Those with an abnormal nose appearance due to birth defects, disease, or injury can also benefit from nose reshaping. A consultation with one of our board certified plastic surgeons can help to determine if you are a good candidate for nose reshaping.

The Nose Reshaping Procedure

A nose reshaping procedure is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. There are two approaches that can be taken to perform a rhinoplasty: the open technique or the closed technique. During the open technique, an incision is created across the columella, which is the bit of tissue between the nostrils. During a closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are created inside the nose. No matter which incision technique is used, bones, cartilage, and soft tissues will be reshaped and repositioned to create an optimal nose appearance. Any incisions will be closed with sutures.

Recovery and Healing

Following nose reshaping surgery, patients will have an external splint or cast in place, which is usually removed after 1-2 weeks. Swelling and bruising commonly occur, which will subside over 2-4 weeks. Any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. If external sutures are placed, they are removed within 4-7 days. Most patients begin to see results three months after surgery, with final results becoming evident after 12-14 months.

Insurance Guidelines

If your nose reshaping procedure is being done for cosmetic reasons only, it will not be covered by insurance. However, if you are undergoing surgery to correct a nasal deformity to congenital defects or injury, insurance coverage may be available. Patients can contact their insurance company for specifics on coverage.
