How BOTOX & Dysport Work

BOTOX and Dysport are both FDA approved and made from botulinum toxin. These treatments temporarily suspend the contractions of facial muscles that cause certain wrinkles,  allowing the wrinkles to gradually smooth out.

Areas Treated

Our skilled team of injectors uses BOTOX and Dysport for minimally invasive facial rejuvenation. Commonly treated concerns include:

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Vertical lines between the eyes
  • Crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes

Candidates for BOTOX & Dysport

For safe, satisfying results with BOTOX or Dysport our patients trust our experienced team.

Women and men typically choose these treatments, among our most popular, to achieve the following goals:

  • Prevent and smooth established wrinkles
  • Enhance facial features by selectively weakening facial musculature
  • Soften wrinkles and lines without creating an overdone blank or “mask-like” look
  • Improve brow position for a natural-looking, nonsurgical brow lift

For a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation, our BOTOX and Dysport patients may choose to also have dermal filler treatments.

How Much Does BOTOX or Dysport Cost in Ann Arbor, MI?

Our practice prices BOTOX and Dysport by the amount injected based on the number of units used. The prices vary depending on who performs the injections—one of our surgeons or our physician assistant or registered nurse. The per unit cost of BOTOX is $13 ($15 when injected by a physician). Dysport costs $5 per unit ($7 when injected by a physician). It typically takes more units of Dysport to produce the same results as BOTOX.

You can see the cost of all injectable treatments on our pricing page.

BOTOX vs. Dermal Fillers

BOTOX and dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM® products treat different types of wrinkles. BOTOX and Dysport minimize the appearance of dynamic wrinkles or “expression lines” that develop from years of changing facial expressions. Fillers, on the other hand, treat wrinkles and lines caused by age-related volume loss, sun exposure, and the loss of collagen. These are called static wrinkles. Patients often choose to get both BOTOX and filler injections during a single appointment, which is sometimes called a nonsurgical facelift.

BOTOX FAQs

How long does BOTOX last?

The results of BOTOX injections usually last between 3 and 4 months.

How often should I get BOTOX injections?

If you want to maintain your results, we recommend scheduling treatments every 3 to 4 months. The amount of BOTOX needed for maintenance treatments is often less than your initial injections.

Does it make you look older after it wears off?

A common misconception is that you’ll look older when the effects of BOTOX wear off. BOTOX limits the movement of muscles that cause wrinkles to develop. So regular BOTOX treatments can actually help you appear younger even when you stop getting injections.

What can I do instead of BOTOX?

BOTOX and Dysport are the most effective nonsurgical treatments for minimizing the appearance of certain types of wrinkles, such as crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles. To get more long-lasting results, you could opt for procedures such as a brow lift or eyelid surgery.

What’s the best age to start getting BOTOX injections?

We recommend getting BOTOX injections when you notice the first signs of aging. That could be in your late 20s or your 30s. Getting BOTOX at that point helps delay the development of more wrinkles, which is often called “preventative BOTOX.”

Is there anything I can do to make my results last longer?

The key to making your results last as long as possible is following good skincare practices. That includes applying sunscreen daily, staying hydrated, maintaining a daily skincare regimen that includes collagen-boosting ingredients, and reducing stress.

Is BOTOX better than Dysport?

Neither BOTOX nor Dysport is better than the other. Each product has its place. Dysport tends to disperse faster than BOTOX and may be a better option for larger treatment areas, such as the forehead, while BOTOX is best for more precise treatment areas.
